Backwards Lunch
One of my first memories of my grandmother is a time when she told me it was perfectly fine to have ice cream in the morning, just as long as a sandwich followed. Which was henceforth known as the “backwards lunch.” I continued the tradition today by indulging in a little gelato while running errands.  On the left tiramisu and on the right cappuccino.  Here is where it came from:  ...

Breakfast really IS the most important meal of the...
I had the morning off today and I spent it doing what else but eating. Decided to double back to Le Pain Quotidien for round two: breakfast. When in (almost) France, you max this out. Hey, my waiter was even French. Authenticity! I love it. Sorry for the shadow, but above you see the best scrambled eggs I have ever had in my life, mixed greens with a yummy sweet dressing, a crusty piece of...

Tal Bagels
My first REAL NYC bagel!!! Here, bagels are traditionally boiled - then baked. Plus there were lots of Italian cookies and treats! I got the salt bagel toasted with butter. And this chocolate-dipped cookie raspberry thing: Tal Bagels is located on the corner of Lexington & 83rd. xoxo, The Blanchaholic

This is where you can have a ridiculously fresh slice of pizza. Like the slice went straight from the oven to my mouth. And that was only 9 minutes after I watched the dough being kneaded and tossed into the air. My friend and I split a small pie with black olives, green pepper, and onions. Absolutely. Nice people and undoubtedly quick service! Meet a friend after work at 80 Henry...

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THING about this afternoon.
I went a little exploring (aka shopping and eating my way through) midtown this afternoon. With the possible exception of the half-naked “life guards” on duty outside the Hollister & Co. Flagship Store (check. it. out.), my absolute favorite thing I found was the Magnolia Bakery. It’s been mildly famous for being one of the best cupcakeries in NYC (yep, I just made that word...

Eating at Church
I went out to lunch with my good friend from high school and her parents this afternoon. Who knew they had such great cafes at Churches in New York City! I consider this a dining best kept secret in the city.  We ate at this gorgeous plaza, Inside Park, next to Saint Bart’s Episcopal Church on Park Avenue.  And we got to observe the incredible architecture while dining. I had the...

What I love about eating in New York so far is that everything is homemade and made-to-order. Case in point: this pasta bar at Monty Q’s. You order by filling out a slip (a la Blanchard Grill); you pick your pasta type, sauce, and mix-ins. Since I was exhausted from a long day at work, I just let this awesome old Italian guy choose for me. I got linguini (cooking in the water on the left)...

So walking home from work I had this ridiculous hunger attack and found the nearest bakery. Needed a treat stat. Le Pain Quotidien ended up being perfect because A) it looks like someone’s dining room in Europe inside, B) it smells like fresh baguettes, and  …and C) the little bite size brownies are a slight balance between cake and chocolate souffle. Just right.  xoxo, The...

Super cute place to grab lunch and act like an important business person. There are lots of salads (my boss’s go-to is their generous chicken caesar) and I got the BBQ Pulled Pork wrap that was, well heavenly. It ain’t no North Carolina BBQ, but it was pretty damn close. The can’t-miss drink is the regular or Strawberry Lemonade. It’s homemade and THE SWEETEST lemonade...

The Blanchaholic Takes Manhattan!
Dear Loyal Readers, No, I’m not in an obscure country this summer teaching children English. Nor am I studying ants in Brazil, or finding clean water in Africa.* But, I did somehow get one of those fancy schmancy internships that people love bragging about. So here I am in New York City for the next two months! As a wannabe foodie, I’ve decided to share all my favorite meals and...
