Backwards Lunch
One of my first memories of my grandmother is a time when she told me it was perfectly fine to have ice cream in the morning, just as long as a sandwich followed. Which was henceforth known as the “backwards lunch.” I continued the tradition today by indulging in a little gelato while running errands.

Tal Bagels
My first REAL NYC bagel!!! Here, bagels are traditionally boiled - then baked. Plus there were lots of Italian cookies and treats! I got the salt bagel toasted with butter.
And this chocolate-dipped cookie raspberry thing:

This is where you can have a ridiculously fresh slice of pizza.
Like the slice went straight from the oven to my mouth. And that was only 9 minutes after I watched the dough being kneaded and tossed into the air. My friend and I split a small pie with black olives, green pepper, and onions. Absolutely.

Eating at Church
I went out to lunch with my good friend from high school and her parents this afternoon. Who knew they had such great cafes at Churches in New York City! I consider this a dining best kept secret in the city.
We ate at this gorgeous plaza, Inside Park, next to Saint Bart’s Episcopal Church on Park Avenue.

What I love about eating in New York so far is that everything is homemade and made-to-order. Case in point: this pasta bar at Monty Q’s. You order by filling out a slip (a la Blanchard Grill); you pick your pasta type, sauce, and mix-ins. Since I was exhausted from a long day at work, I just let this awesome old Italian guy choose for me.

So walking home from work I had this ridiculous hunger attack and found the nearest bakery. Needed a treat stat. Le Pain Quotidien ended up being perfect because A) it looks like someone’s dining room in Europe inside, B) it smells like fresh baguettes, and

Super cute place to grab lunch and act like an important business person. There are lots of salads (my boss’s go-to is their generous chicken caesar) and I got the BBQ Pulled Pork wrap that was, well heavenly. It ain’t no North Carolina BBQ, but it was pretty damn close.
